We don't have desks in our rooms, we have tables. Students rotate between three classrooms during the day. They often come to class without the basic math tools. Sometimes they have these tools in their lockers but this takes away class time while they go to find them. Having the math tools they need in a central location in the classroom will enhance their learning. In middle school, students study geometry which requires the use of rulers and protractors. Scissors are used frequently in the curriculum we use. The colored pencils make it easier to differentiate between different lines when they are graphing equations and comparing slope.
