By building a space for KinderCoding during our day, we are fostering a love of technology beyond screen time to hopefully build awareness in the technology field and possibly positions not even created yet. Kindergarten is a place for exploration and learning in one of the first school environments our students will experience, why not explore code as well? In a world that is changing quickly towards a coded world, students will use Osmo and Dash and Dot robots to explore technology beyond video games and apps to a place of learning through fun applications. By starting coding though a play atmosphere, students will be exposed to different aspects without learning "coding language" quite yet. Students will use Osmo to tie in different subject areas while seamlessly using technology. Because the Osmo platform offers many different "games" for students, they will be able to grow with the complexity as well as remain comfortable in a familiar platform. Dash and Dot extend the learning to challenge level where students are asked to complete challenges by programming Dash and Dot. Dash and Dot use child friendly language to code Dash and Dot to complete challenges. I hope to extend this coding in years to come by challenging other students of similar age groups to create their own challenges for my classroom and vice versa. I believe that in our extremely connected world, we must encourage our students to be able to collaborate virtually with materials that they have physically.
