I have decided to take the leap from teaching high school to teaching middle school. While I have yet to meet my new students, I can tell you that my new school community is very rural and close-knit. I will have a large population of free and reduced lunch students. As one of two seventh grade ELA teachers, I will have students of varying abilities; I have the opportunities to co-teach in an inclusion class with a special education teacher, work with the most advanced students in both writing and literature, and to serve the students in between these two extremes. We are a 1:1 school (Chromebooks) and my classroom is equipped with a Smart Board. At this point, my new room is a blank slate. With the support of my administration, my goal is to create a warm, welcoming environment that will serve all of my students and their needs.
