I teach a morning and afternoon session of four-year-old kindergarten. Each day 34 sweet little faces parade across my classroom. I always say that I could have the most difficult time before class begins, but it all disappears once I see their faces so delighted to be at school and so eager to learn. My students come from many diverse backgrounds and they do not all have ideal home lives, but more importantly they are full of life and bring energy and joy to school with them everyday. They are genuinely delightful and bring smiles to the faces of everyone in our PreK-6 school. We are a neighborhood school in a small industrial city. We have a lot of low income housing near our school, which is where a lot of our students live. We also have a fairly large population of non-English speaking students and parents. Regardless of our differences, however, we have an outstanding school district filled with dedicated educators and a close knit school community.
