Our students come from under resourced backgrounds - 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Based on our beginning of the year reading assessments, 66% of our sixth grade was not reading on grade level. 54% of our students are Latino and 45% are African American. Many of them verbalize that they hate to read. I have been with these students for two years. Since starting together, I am in awe of the development they have made academically, socially, and personally.
