As a first year teacher after being a special education ed tech for 12 years, I recognize the importance of students being able to access their education and self-regulate both their bodies and their emotions. Alternative seating can provide students the opportunity to work on these skills, as well as decrease disruptions to the entire class. Reading for pleasure is an important and often life-changing experience - one that sometimes need to be taught. With a large and varied classroom library, there is a better chance of students finding something at their reading level and that is of interest. When the library books, the seating and the standing tables are combined, I will be able to accommodate my students' needs, preferences and hopefully make their learning more enjoyable, while having the ability to teach coping and regulation skills.
