Scholastic News helps to build vocabulary, develop awareness of the world around us, understand the power of research, and gives meaningful information for writing constructed responses. First graders are learning how to write meaningful responses to questions about text, and will use Scholastic News to locate essential information. Scholastic News also provides the students a look into our world, and builds on their vocabulary by using new words in a context that the students understand. My hope is that not only will our students gain proficiency in reading and writing, but that they grow into people who are knowledgable and contribute positively to this world.

About my class
