I am very passionate about trying to provide students with equitable opportunities to learn. Students within our special education program do not always have the stamina to sit through an entire lesson and require additional time and frequent breaks. By providing them a multi-sensory room, it allows them a safe place to stimulate their mental activity, a relaxing environment, and promote positive interaction. Not every student has the ability to ask for help or express the need of help using their words. They might express themselves in a way that may not be safe for them or others. Therefore, when needed, an adult will accompany a student to the multi-sensory room to allow them some time to decompress from any personal and/or academic stress that has them upset. This will be THEIR safe place to take a brain break.
