I work at a Title I school with an extremely high poverty rating. Many of my students are struggling readers and have not yet discovered the joy of reading. Some come from homes where there are not any children's books for them to read. Because of this, my students have not had the same exposure to books as many of their age-related peers. This has negatively impacted their reading ability and left them behind their grade level peers. Our students and their families care very much about their education, they just don't always have the tools the need to support their learning. By providing students with the headsets required for our reading program, we will be able to ensure that all students in my class can access our reading program. Plus, providing students with high interest books to borrow will allow them to take books home to keep practicing the reading skills they learn in the classroom.
