New flashlights and batteries will help my third graders lose themselves in a book in a unique way. With the classroom lights off, and students scattered around the room with a flashlight and a book, students will enjoy reading. Students who struggle with reading or have a hard time finding joy in reading will become more enthusiastic about curling up with a good book. Reading with a flashlight will be an incentive for students to find a good fit book so they can participate. Reading expands vocabulary, comprehension, and impacts every aspect of learning. Reluctant readers will have motivation to find a good fit book because they will enjoy participating in "Flashlight Friday" reading each week. All students will able to participate with a class set of flashlights that are ready for a spur of the moment treat when a break from the traditional classroom is needed. No child will be left out if the flashlights are readily available.
