Since digging down roots at Crest View 7 years ago I've worked hard to learn and listen from my students, their families and other professionals. I have chosen to invest a lot of time and money into continuously adding to and updating my book selection to reflect the students and families that I am working with. I believe in the utter importance of inclusion and representation through the materials I am using throughout the day. Not only to reflect the students and families that are in my room but also the students and families who are not in our room, but who are in the classroom next to us, or down the hall in our apartment, or who work with my mom. These books will be used to supplement some our curriculum materials where I don't find my students are being represented. The play materials are used to encourage further social and emotional development as well as fine motor skills and even some academic and life skills. This incoming year has the most students with special needs that we have seen yet. We are excited to partner with these students and their families on their academic journey and are desperate to ensure that our classrooms have what they need to develop the social and gross/fine motor skills they need support with. We currently do not have sufficient materials or any funding whatsoever to meet these needs.
