Research shows that when students find texts that are engaging, high interest, and at their independent reading level, they have significantly greater success as readers. Having access to engaging, high-interest series such as Harry Potter, Dog Man, and more, will allow the wide range of readers found in a third grade classroom to experience success, and begin a lifelong love of reading. In addition, providing students with access to books with characters from a range of cultural backgrounds, will help them to relate to their texts and feel represented. Access to these kinds of books can also set the stage for lifelong reading success.
