My first graders will devour any new reading materials brought into the classroom. If I read it to them as a read aloud it is an instant hit! Often they are sad when I have to return books to my local library or the school library because they enjoy reading them so much. I carefully choose books that have relatable characters that teach honorable character traits or problem-solving skills. Magazines are a big hit in my class! My students will sit in the reading corner relaxing and enjoying a short read from old donated magazines. I'd like to get more age-appropriate magazines from Scholastic News for their reading pleasure. I will read the magazine aloud to them first, then they get to take their own reader home to share with their families.
