My students are average 4th graders who enjoy learning. Many of their families are being challenged with unemployment and the stresses that accompany that. Currently, when working on modeling multiplication and division there are not enough base ten blocks for all students to manipulate so they have to share amongst three or four. This decreases the learning because the students have fewer opportunities to manipulate the math base ten blocks which decreases mathematical learning.
