"If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn." My classroom is a mixed-disability self-contained environment for grades PK-5 in a rural mountain town. My students come to me with various academic, social, emotional, and adaptive strengths and challenges. Many enter my classroom after showing immense growth in the moderate/severe setting and my team works hard to continue that momentum. We emphasize kindness and acceptance throughout the day- kindness to each other, our physical environment, our caretakers & teachers, and, most importantly, ourselves. We want to not only grow in our reading and math skills but also in our ability to interact and communicate with others outside the classroom. The ultimate goal of our classroom is not to simply meet IEP goals but to feel and be included in all life settings.
