I have requested a voice amplifier & wireless microphone because it would allow my voice to carry across the classroom evenly and more efficiently to help guarantee that every student can hear want I am saying accurately. A voice amplifier is also a great essential item to those students who are hearing impaired or may suffer from temporary hearing impairments such as ear infections or allergies that are affecting the hearing. I have some students that would benefit greatly from alternative seating, such as wobble chairs and balance balls. It is a very long day for 1st graders and having to sit still is nearly impossible. Being able to move safely in their seat would help them focus on the lesson at hand, absorb the information, and learn move proficiently. Dry erase markers allow students to learn in a fun nontraditional way. It gives them a break from the restrictions of pencil and paper and opens a new way of learning that they can use with math mats I have created just for them. The students love using dry markers and it engages them in their learning. Most first graders are visual learners. We need pocket charts and cardstock so that the students will be able to touch and feel vocabulary, sight words, and sound cards, math fluency cards, and more. It is important for the students not only to hear the words, but be able to see them too. I love to encourage the class to use the room to help them as much as possible. If the students have reachable touchable resources for vocabulary, sight words, math fluency cards, and more it would greatly benefit their hands-on learning.
