The addition of higher level novels will help keep our students engaged and excited about choosing books during library time. Currently our high-lexile level books are largely non-fiction which are not ideal for school projects and don't typically capture readers' interests the way works of fiction do. The introduction of high-level "new" classics will give high-level readers the engagement they need, while providing greater depth to our school library as a whole. Typically, we have to reach out to the public library to borrow higher-level novels to fulfill our students' needs. Our library has many lower and mid-range lexile level novels, but when it comes to higher levels, students are left choosing from a small selection of traditional classics - most of which do not appeal to them. While a large percentage of our students need higher-level novels for book reports, their desire for exceptional stories does not end with the school day. Students are constantly seeking new and varied novels, though the most requested books are usually historical fiction (especially World War II), and horror/suspense. Adding these two dozen titles to our collection would reinvigorate our advanced readers and expand our catalog's diversity to better match our evolving student body.
