The wonderful four, five, and six year olds in my combination Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten class may come from diverse backgrounds, but they all have at least one amazing thing in common. They love learning -- especially the kinds of hands-on learning that they think of as just play! Whether my students are spelling high-frequency words using playdough, performing a Lego S.T.E.M. challenge, or searching for butterflies, earthworms, and ladybugs in our very own nature garden, these superstar scholars are always engaged!! The majority of my students come from lower-income households and are English language learners. Many have never been to preschool so the hands-on learning experiences they have in my classroom are essential for giving them real-life experiences, sparking their imaginations and ensuring they receive the balanced educations they deserve! As Piaget said, "Play is the work of childhood!"
