Students need calm bodies to effectively learn; and students with disabilities sometimes need help calming themselves. With your help, our sensory room will be a place for students to go when they are overwhelmed, overstimulated, and need a break. Our students often have difficulties processing the sensory input from their environment. They also encounter daily stressors just like you and me, however they don't have the ability to calm themselves as easily as we do. This room would be a safe place for them that will use their proprioceptive, tactile, auditory, olfactory, and kinesthetic senses to assist in self-regulation and calming. This will allow them to return to class, ready to learn. Studies have shown that with sensory input, students are able to increase attention to task, quality of work, and better interactions with peers, teachers, and staff.
