Your generous contribution towards my project will quickly help my students become independent and critical thinkers. With the resources, I can provide hands-on, rigorous and engaging math activities. My students will build a stronger sense of numbers that will foster competence, courage and confidence. I believe in this project and the difference it will make in the lives of my students. Placing these materials in their hands, will allow my students to get excited and energetic about math. The Number Line, Answer Board and the Ten-Frames will be useful tools for my students to develop number sense within the content of 10. I will use the tools to prompt different mental images of numbers and different mental strategies for manipulating these numbers. Students will use the pocket chart and white boards to show their work as they verbalized their thought process. As they reflect, they will begin to learn about their own thinking as well as provide others with the opportunity to pick up a new strategy. In addition, I can quickly assess the kind of thinking going on and adjust my instruction. The Place Value Mystery game will be placed in a center during Guided Math for additional independent practice. My student will use math journals to respond to word problem that are printed on stickers. The journals will be housed in book boxes. Lastly, the multimedia resource, Number Talks: Helping Children Build Mental Math, will support me in building mental math and computational strategies. Your contribution will give me the ability to meet each student where they are academically and provide strategies and tools to enable them to be confident and competent in math.
