Students utilize sales adds from local supermarkets and department stores to determine the cost of items. They have discussions on how sales tax, coupons, and discounts affect the total cost. The whiteboards are a fun way to work with peers and utilize "math talk" to compare their work and guide each other's success. Our motto in class is "Mistakes mean you are trying." In my math class, students love the use of whiteboards because as mistakes are made the work can be easily erased and corrected. I am able to walk around the room and quickly assess student progress and understanding.
