The literature book, Auggie & Me, will provide students with the opportunity to read an engaging story from multiple points of view on a vital subject matter; bullying. Students are able to see a similar story from the points of view of multiple characters. Students in 5th grade are in an important phase, and learning to think about material from different perspectives will serve them throughout their lives. How will multiple people respond differently to the same situation? How does a person's background knowledge and experiences impact the way they react to a statement or a behavior? This book explores this idea and encourages the students to consider actions from others' points of view. The markers, paper and folders are necessary to develop visual representations of the student learning as they document and share their work. Our students are more engaged in their reading when given the opportunity to demonstrate new knowledge through alternative activities and art projects.
