Kindergarten should be an experience of exploration! With the right tools, students can develop skills through centers, independent work and small group learning. This year has been unlike any other with students requiring more support with fine motor skills, classroom expectations and phonemic awareness. The Coronavirus Pandemic interrupted their early stages of learning. This is a stage of development that helps them learn critical skills that will lead to their success with literacy and math for years to come. The resources I am hoping to add to our classroom, will aide in developing the skills the students struggle with. In addition to the specific areas addressed with the new resources, most will help with their fine motor skills. Sandpaper letters, alphabet stamps and letter tracing and lacing will promote letter identification and support phonemic awareness. Sound boxes lessons will be more interactive, during small groups, with the transparent chips and magnet wands. Adding additional components to our imaginative play center will inspire creativity and cooperation. With the magnet tiles and Legos, students will work together to create with a collaborative spirit. The addition of puppets will transition them to be imaginative and, in turn, learn how to write about their ideas and experiences. A new table will be used for a station dedicated to writing. Along with individual folders and organized storage for paper, writing tools and completed stories, students will have a special space to create! I sincerely thank you for the opportunity to help my students as they work through the skills that have not developed with typical progress.
