I teach a group of about 20 first graders in small rural town in Washington. We are a one building district that educates students PreSchool-8th grade. Our enrollment is constantly fluctuating and therefore our funding as well. Our educational assistant hours have been cut this year, and most of my parents are working parents and are unable to volunteer. With initial assessments just completed, I can say that I have a large percentage of students below the expected levels. My kids are very high energy and have difficulty sitting still for even short periods of time. We have our work cut out for us, and I can't wait to see the growth my students will make this year!
