My goal for this project is to get materials that will encourage creativity, collaboration, and choice. I also want to encourage computer science by introducing students to coding. Many of my students do not have access to coding materials at their homes. Many are the first generation born in the United States in their families. Teaching them at an early age that they too can be computer scientists will encourage them that they can go to college. Allowing students to have tactile materials like this will give them an opportunity to engineer, build, and bring their ideas to life. It will make learning so much fun, they won't even realize they are hard at work. Materials funded by this project will give my students a chance to work together toward a common goal and an opportunity to express themselves. I hope to provide an effective STEM classroom, one that provides a positive problem-solving culture full of creators. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students will have the opportunity to use these materials in a variety of ways. My hope is to allow them to use them during morning work, to integrate them into our content areas, as an early-finisher option, or even during indoor recess. Some of the items I am requesting are legos, Dash coding Robot, a code and go robot, magnetic blocks, building blocks, and even straw connectors! I will use a 10-drawer organizer to keep all of the STEM materials organized and in one designated area for easy access. My students will be so excited to have these materials! I hope they will be inspired to achieve great things!
