A few years ago, I started giving my students gimp/Rexlace. I found some spools at home, and brought them in. I taught my students in free moments how to use gimp. It lets them create something, it helps to busy their hands and let their minds pay attention, and they also have an end result and can give it to a family member or friend. It started as just something fun to do, but it became so much more than I imagined. I have students that would come from all over the school to get gimp- some of whom aren't even my students. My students have really taken to it. They tell me it helps relax them, give them something positive to focus on, if they are angry it helps to calm them down. It has been such an amazing thing for so many of my students, that they started asking for a club, where I could show them new stitches and projects. I have SO many students in the club, that I have spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on gimp. It would be so amazing to have some more colors, and more gimp so that all of my students interested could benefit from this positive, fun activity!
