My high school students move from class to class sitting in the same style desks all day while being asked by each teacher to be attentive, productive and still. After reading many studies, I have decided that my students DESERVE to have comfortable seating in their classroom in order to prevent the fatigue that comes from sitting all day long. My classes are made up teenagers of all sizes and shapes; from my 6'4" freshman to my 4"9' senior, and they are supposed to sit comfortably all day long in the same size desks. My students and I are asking for a variety of seating options from stools, low beach chairs, dorm chairs, arm pillows, and a large rug for sitting directly on the floor. I know that my students productivity will greatly increase when they are allowed to choose the seat in which they will be most comfortable. Numerous studies have proven direct connections between comfort that relate to increased attention span, productivity and positive behavior in the classroom. My students have expressed their excitement at being able to choose to sit in any kind of seat that is "not a desk". My students also asked you to remember the last time you had to sit for an extended period of time and concentrate, take a test, and think in an uncomfortable seat. My students do this everyday for 7 class periods and I think it would be AWESOME for them if they have at least one period a day where they can sit comfortably. Please consider helping me reach this goal to provide comfort to my students!
