Flexible seating gives students a choice of where and how they learn best. When it is time for independent work, students will be given the opportunity to choose the seat and spot that will allow them to be the most productive. When it is time for the whole group, students will have the option to pull up their stools, chairs, balance balls, wobble seats to the meeting area. While on their chosen spot, students will be able to concentrate on the teaching and learning instead of fidgeting or falling asleep at the standard desk and chair. Making students comfortable and giving them a choice gives students ownership in their learning. My students are noticeably more engaged and on task when they are given a choice about where they are sitting or laying in the classroom. We have had many fantastic conversations with students lounging on the floor with pillows and beanbags!
