My students require highly structured environments and interventions to navigate the world successfully. This carpet (in the blues and greens of our calming sensory room) will provide my students with a visual cue for utilizing the sensory room safely. They will use the designated carpet to practice appropriate play and social skills in a safe space. Learning to stay in a designated area is a critical safety skill that translates into the community. When the parent of a non-verbal child with autism can walk through a grocery store or go to a doctor's appointment knowing that their child can safely stay with them, quality of life can be vastly improved. This carpet will provide visual support in a highly motivating environment to learn and practice this skill.
