My fifth grade students often arrive at school with issues that they are dealing with such as poverty, bullying, divorce, just to name a few. It is so important that we help students get to a place where they clear their minds of these challenges while at school so that learning can take place. I have a Lemonade Stand in my classroom for this very reason. As the saying goes, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!" The Lemonade Stand serves as a place where students can escape to spend time reading books that deal with tough situations that children have to go through. My students have learned that sometimes life is unkind and we have to help each other deal with issues that may arise.
