After years of teaching, my middle school classroom has a motto based on a quote by Georgia O'Keeffe: "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way...things I had no words for." My students express their feelings and ideas through their art daily. I see students that come from all walks of life. They use art to tell their story, sometimes a story that's hard to tell in words. 50% of the students in the school receive free or reduced lunch. Some come from low-poverty areas and others from single family homes. I see parents working hard for their children every single day just to make sure they can come to school in good clothes and eat a good meal. I love teaching my students. There is so much diversity in my classroom that it makes for a very interesting class with lots of different points of view.
