Yes I Can, is a class that pairs students with disabilities, especially students with high functioning autism and Asperger's Syndrome, with general education students to work on social skills, communication and other teen issues. The purpose of the class is to promote social inclusion and acceptance on campus, while giving students with a social disability the skills that they will need to be successful in life. The general education students are recommended by staff to apply for the class and screened by the instructors. They receive training about the disabilities they may encounter and are coached on how to handle difficult situations that may arise. The students with autism and Asperger's are some of the most amazing students. They are talented, insightful, and bring an amazing energy to the classroom. Our school is lucky to have a program that promotes inclusion and we would like to carry that message out to the rest of the campus through this project.
