Our Writer's Workshop asks students to explore the art of the biography. At the close of the unit, students pick a figure to study and ultimately craft their own piece about their figure, using several sources. At present, many of the biographies I have to offer focus on a white male. I would like to provide my students with choice, as well as relatable storylines. It's important for them to learn about the Frida Kahlos & Misty Coplands of the world, in addition to the ever popular Milton Hersheys and Albert Einsteins! Ultimately, I'd like them to connect to the text and say, "I'm like her/him- and I can do that!"
