My students have such a love and appreciation for reading, but often have a difficult time finding books that they can relate to or see themselves in. Many students are so proud of their backgrounds and have told me that they would love to see books written in their home language in our library, in addition to seeing their traditions and holidays more represented in our book choices. I would love to be able to provide them with more choices in our classroom library. I have specifically chosen books that we can use for whole group read alouds tied to our TEKS, small group strategy instruction, and books that are tied to our Units of Inquiry that will allow students to independently explore our Lines of Inquiry and Learner Profile. Students will also use these books for their upcoming research projects. Overall, these books would be beneficial for all students to learn about other cultures that are in their community and around the world, and encourage a more open minded and inclusive environment.
