My school houses close to 1000 students from grades pre-k to 8. My school is a public school in NJ in an urban area. Many of my students come from single parent homes and homes where English is a second language. They are disadvantaged in many ways and face many challenges. Some of the health related struggles they face are obesity, diabetes, asthma and other cardiovascular problems. They are great kids who are eager to learn and try new things when given the chance. Some of my students don't get much physical activity outside of school due to safety issues in their neighborhoods. They have always liked jumping rope but the budget doesn't leave much room to get everything we want, and now of course we need them for testing.
