At my school, I am one of three teachers who specialize in teaching students with a variety of disabilities. Students with disabilities and Autism struggle with coping techniques when they are anxious or overstimulated. Providing them with sensory materials, such as a soft area to sit, building toys, and puzzles will provide them a framework for calming techniques and coping techniques. In my room I am creating a sensory area to help students take a break and regulate their emotions. Throughout the day, I have many student who need breaks and need an area that is safe and quiet for them to have a 5 to 10 minute break. As of right now, my sensory room is quite empty, but with the help of each of you, we can provide the needed resources for my students!
