The flex square floor table will enable my students to move freely and collaborate with their peers. Building oracy is a key piece when developing language, with this table they will be able to actually share ideas and thoughts with an actual elbow partner. The markers, letter stamps, magnetic letter, gel pens and clay will enhance language development in my students through writing. They will be able to use the dry erase markers, gel pens, stamps, magnetic letters and clay to highlight tricky word patterns, grammar, sentence structures and much more during their daily word work. My students will be aware of the purpose of each of the materials in the classroom and know that they are resources to become better readers and writers. Flexible seating will highly motivate and engage my students in learning. Floor cushions, balance balls, bean bags and wobble seats will add choice and flexibility. Students will be offered with choice, where this has been identified as a powerful force that allows students to take ownership and responsibility for their learning. Studies indicate that students motivation increases when they have the option to make choices about what they learn add when they believe they have autonomy or control of their own learning. These materials will help hold students accountable for their own learning, choosing their own comfortable spots all around the classroom where they engage in meaningful reading and writing for extended periods of time. My students show they are accountable for finding their own work spot by choosing a flexible seat where they can be independent and maintain stamina.
