My students come from poverty-ridden neighborhoods. They need to realize they are worthy and capable of making good decisions. First and foremost, they should believe in themselves and value their education by finishing school. I encourage them to become positive citizens by improving their academics, as well as social and emotional intelligence, promoting reading daily to improve their future. They are all good kids from poor neighborhoods. Giving them an opportunity to feel valued is crucial at this point in their lives.
