My class has a variety of needs and I want to provide them with all the options I can to make their 3rd grade year the best it can be! I teach a third-grade ESL class of 18 students. My students are eager to learn and try new things, but they have many odds stacked against them. Our school is located in an urban area. My students come from a low socioeconomic background. A full 99% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. During Back to School Night, only two families reported that they had computers at home. Our class is an ESL class with only 10% reading on 3rd grade level. However, we have created a school culture that is nurturing while setting high expectations. We have a lot of work to do, but we can do it!! By offering my students an environment that meets their individual needs I will be able to give them what they need to be successful in academics and in life.
