In my general education classroom, I have a wide range of learners. My students would greatly benefit from flexible seating. I am finding it more and more common that students in the general education setting have sensory needs that need to be supported to help them be successful throughout their school day. Students are not acting out in class because they do not want to learn, it is because they do not have the tools to self regulate. I have scheduled times in my day to take various kinds of breaks: sensory breaks, stretching breaks and brain breaks. These breaks allow my students to move around, receive sensory input and come back focused and ready to learn. If my students had these sensory tools they would be able to regulate their system when feeling overwhelmed or frustrated.
