Kindergarten is the year it all starts! In my school five and six year olds come to school for the first time with little foundational skills in place. Many come from non-English speaking homes and are predominantly of low socioeconomic status. therefore many are lacking a love of reading. Most of them haven't been read to often or have only been read three to four books on repeat. They have no idea who Mo Willems or Eric Carle are and they've never been introduced to that hungry caterpillar or those wild things. These books will allow my students to use their imaginations and discover new worlds. They'll use them to explore math and science, to become writers and understand their emotions. These skills aren't just important in school but for their lives outside of school as well. These books will help grow my little scholars into world leaders.
