My alternative high school students come from all different backgrounds and walks of life, many of them with no arts education of any sort in their background. While they are learning English, Math, History, and Science, I want to also offer them an enriching and fulfilling arts experience. The science also shows that students who are immersed in an arts or music program perform better in their regular class studies! Because my students are from low-income families (100% qualify for the free lunch program) they do not have the means or opportunity to help supply the classroom with arts or music materials. I am now turning to Donors Choose to help supplement my classroom and provide me with the supplies I so desperately need to offer an enriching arts and music program to my students.
