In my classroom, we utilize multi-sensory instructional strategies and curriculum to ensure students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences reach their true potential. Flexible seating options allow my students to move their bodies while engaging in challenging instruction and activities. These seating options will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. I currently have different height tables to accommodate floor seating and traditional chair seating and the students love having the opportunity to choose the area that works best for them during independent work time. I have seen the success that providing our students with choice in how and where they work creates! Making sure students are comfortable when they are engaging in challenging work is an essential component in motivating them. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting in a traditional chair and desk. The products that I have selected will help my students stay focused by giving them different seating options, allowing them to move their bodies and engage in more effective learning. The active learning stools will allow my students to sit at my small group table and remain focused by engaging in small movements that are not distracting to peers. The stability ball seats will allow my students to engage their core and have movement breaks during independent work time. This helps reduce frustration during challenging activities and keeps students motivated to complete independent tasks. The floor cushions will replace worn chair pads that were used for floor seating at the adapted floor desks. All of these flexible seating options are lightweight and easily mobile that students can choose where they would like to work independently or collaborate.
