Interacting with stories is a natural and motivating way for young children to develop language skills, including children who are learning English as their second or third language. Having the ability to view the text and illustrations in a larger format makes the lesson accessible to all students. While I remain a passionate proponent of old-fashioned book page turning, I have found that projecting stories is the most engaging way for all students to interact with the story while remaining socially distant during this time of pandemic learning. Using a projector can be beneficial throughout the whole Storytime- from pre-reading vocabulary discussions and building background knowledge, to after-reading conferencing with a partner to support oral language development, comprehension.
