Can you recall the first time you read a book that made you feel as if you were a part of the story? You felt as if you could reach in and touch the characters, taste the food, and smell the air. A great book has the ability to do just that; it can transform you to a different place, a different world. While as a child, I had the opportunity to experience this,  many of my students have not. Over 90% of scholars in my school are living in one of our city’s lowest income areas of town, with a high drop-out rate. A large number of our scholars do not have access to grade-appropriate or any books at all in their homes. With this being said, I would like to build a classroom library for my scholars to take a magical trip through the world of books. Reading is of key importance in helping them approach the current grade level for reading, likewise building the confidence needed to stay in school.
