Physical education is so much more than just sports. I want to teach my middle school students about the positive effects of exercising. By using pulse monitors, students will be able to visually see their heart rate increase and decrease through various exercises. Students will begin by finding their resting heart rate or RHR. Then they will commit to more difficult exercises including, but not limited to walking, jumping jacks, jogging, sprinting, and push-ups. Through each activity, students will track and record their heart rates using the pulse monitors. Students will understand that through different heart rate zones comes different benefits such as fat burning, aerobic endurance, and anaerobic endurance.
