It is known throughout the educational community that in order for students to excel in a particular subject area, they must have repeated exposure and practice with the content. This "law" stands in my classroom, with my students practicing and deepening their math skills through differentiated math centers. Because I have found that most students excel when they are taught in a small-group setting, I use a majority of my math block to instruct my students through stations, which feature hands-on activities and games. With your help, my students will be able to master the crucial prerequisite math skills that will set them up for success as they venture through the rest of their schooling careers. The dominos will be used to help reinforce basic addition and subtraction skills, while the dice will be used in a variety of ways including probability, graphing, and place value. The clocks will be used to help students practice telling time, and the fact family cards will be used to help students practice their understanding of number relationships. Math manipulatives, such as the ones I am requesting, are the keys to making mathematics less abstract and more relatable to my students. The math skills they learn in first grade are more then just state standards; they are the foundation for all future math strengths and the beginning of pivotal life and workplace skills. Please help me in creating meaningful and fun math centers for my students!
