Our students need more exposure to various types of genres. Exposing them to a dystopian novel like "The Hunger Games" can bring social skill situations to the classroom that can be discussed through the use of the literature. We have students who are resistant to utilizing the library and rarely check out books. We would like them to see that there are exciting books available that also can teach them about different types of literature. Students will benefit from the exposure of this novel because it will promote higher level thinking. They will see how far people go for others and what they'll do to help others, so that the students can begin to develop empathy for the individuals in the book.
