The learning atmosphere in my classroom can be electric! The students in our school are responsive to new learning opportunities and, when motivated, produce high-quality work. Middle school students need access to a large variety of respected works of literature to nurture established passions and ignite interest in people, places, ideas, and knowledge in which they have limited access. At a time in the life of a developing and sometimes confused or apathetic teen, access to literature serves as a gateway to unlimited possibilities. Reading books about interesting topics with engaging characters serves not only as a safe escape for middle school distractions but gives the students an opportunity to learn as well as grow as citizens in our school community.
