My co teacher and I are lucky to be looping from 4th grade to 5th grade with the same group of students. Because of this, we were able to ask them about books they're interested in which is directly reflected in the books requested. We also included some additional quality literature that is diverse and reaches a variety of ability levels. The books include similar authors they have been exposed to during read alouds, graphic novels, popular chapter books, and more. Students will be able to read these books in class during independent reading time or can take them home to read and return. I have also included 4 display shelves to showcase some of the books in the classroom library which can be rotated by students to display what they are currently interested in. We spent a large amount of time this year reading a variety of books during read aloud, in small groups, and independent reading from different genres so students could identify which types of genres, authors, or book series interested them the most. It is important for our students to have access to different books so they are able to read books that keep them coming back for more!
